Capiz Provincial Press bureau

History

The Capiz Provincial Press Bureau (CPPB) has certainly gone a long way since it was created on August 2008 as an information arm of the Capiz provincial government. Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. and Provincial Administrator and Legal Officer Atty. Joe Villanueva are thinking about the CPP B’s institutionalization. The CPPB was created by Gov. Tanco through Admnistrative Order No. 21 as one of the line division offices of the Office of the Governor. It is in-charge of the office’s information dissemination and public relations activities. Headed by former editor-publisher Edward Basilonia, the CPPB is the first of its kind in Western Visayas in terms of the number of people manning it (16), the logistic support it enjoys and the scope of its functions and coverage.

It has a seperate office backed by modern equipment at the ground floor of the provincial Capitol. Using the quad-media approach – print, radio, television and the Internet - the Bureau has made its presence felt by the CapizeƱos. The CPPB maintains two block-time programs with same title on two local televisions. Department heads are invited to shed light on their programs and activities, particularly those that would redound to the benefit of the people. On top of its press daily release to various media outlets, the CPPB also maintains a monthly newsletter “Pag-ulikid. Written in Hiligaynon, it has a circulation of over 3,000 copies.

The blog site capizpressbureau.i.ph was created to give CapizeƱos more access to information. Through site, updates about the latest news, programs, events and activities of the provincial government can be easily accessed and downloaded. Through the CPPB, almost all activities of the provincial government are covered and documented. Its staff serves as the advance party of the governor during speaking engagements, special occasions, out-of-town visits and other related activiites.

Another function of the CPPB is to compile news clippings published in local, regional and national newspaper to guide the provincial government in its day-to-day dealings and its future plans. The CPPB has also designed some of the streamers and tarpaulins of provincial government sponsored events and programs.
